Aaron Swartzman

is a dancer, father, improviser, Capoierista and educator. He began dancing as a child, taking classes at Creative Dance Center and performing with Kaleidoscope Dance Company. After college, his love of improvisation, collaboration, and the body in motion brought him back to dance. He has danced professionally since 2001, working deeply with LINGO dancetheater and LeGendre Performance and touring to such places as Düsseldorf, Minneapolis, New York, San Diego, Cleveland (Ohio and Mississippi), Portland, Vancouver, B.C. and Nashville. He has been creating collaborative duets with Aiko Kinoshita since 2006 as UMAMI performance. . The cornerstones of his movement practice are contact improvisation, contemplative dance practice, Capoeira Angola, and imaginary shamanism. A generalist constantly synthesizing the seemingly disparate threads of his life into his dance work, he believes in the richness and practice of discovering spontaneous beauty and weaving it towards ongoing artistic transformation.
