Led by Ivory Smith, a sublime singer/songwriter/musician that has been expanding her edgy horizons out on the fun fringes of Seattle’s adventurous music scene for many years (as a solo artist, with the now defunct pop/rock band Bloodbunny, and as part of the acclaimed Foot in Mouth performance-art ensemble, among other well-received projects), Ivory in Ice World kicks out an enchanting pop sound peppered with saavy dashes of accessible eclecticism. One could encapsulate their engaging aesthetic as pretty and soulful – yet occasionally deep-throatingly ominous, like Mazzy Star focusing on a ballsy Diamanda Galas LP – with a faint smell of Cat Power slowly drifting through the air. In other words, Ivory In Ice World dishes out an intimate and crafty pop-centric strain that’s been finely honed.
